   ROHDE & SCHWARZ SMC100A (1411.4002.02)   Description / Specification:
ROHDE & SCHWARZ SMC100A 1.1 / 3.2 GHz Signal Generator

The R&S SMC100A Signal Generator is a flexible and versatile instrument is suited for use in service and maintenance labs. Due to its small dimensions and lightweight design, the R&S SMC100A is also the perfect choice for field applications or training and education environments. Features. Low SSB phase noise of typ. -111 dBc (f = 1 GHz, 20 kHz carrier offset, 1 Hz measurement bandwidth). Wideband noise of typ. < -146 dBc (f > 1 MHz, carrier offset > 10 MHz, 1 Hz measurement bandwidth). Nonharmonics of typ. < -72 dBc (f <=1600 MHz, carrier offset > 10 kHz). Level error < 0.9 dB. Frequency and level setting times <5 ms. Optional high-stability reference oscillator. Frequency range 9 kHz to 1.1 GHz or 3.2 GHz. Typical maximum level of +17 dBm. Analog modulation modes (AM/FM/phiM/pulse modulation) integrated as standard. Remote control compatibility with other signal generators. Multiple language support (nine selectable GUI languages). Integrated overvoltage protection. Wear-free electronic attenuator. Specifications. Frequency Range: 9 kHz to 1.1 GHz (opt SMC-B101), 9 kHz to 3.2 GHz (SMC-B103). Frequency Resolution of setting: 0.001 Hz. Frequency Phase offset: adjustable in 0.1° steps. Level AUTO MODE: The step attenuator is switched over automatically. The output level is specified over the full range from -120 dBm to +13 dBm. Level FIXED MODE: The level is set without changing the step attenuator. Level Setting range: -120 dBm to +19 dBm. Specified level range 200 kHz <= f <= 3.2 GHz: -120 dBm to +13 dBm (PEP). Resolution: 0.01 dB. Level sweep Operating modes digital sweep in discrete steps: automatic, single sweep, step, manual or external trigger, linear in dB. Spectral purity Harmonics f > 1 MHz, level <= 8 dBm: <-30 dBc. Options. SMC-B101, RF Path 9 kHz to 1.1 GHz. SMC-B103, RF Path 9 kHz to 3.2 GHz. SMC-B1, Reference Oscillator OCXO. SMC-K4, GPIB/IEEE488 Interface.

Average Power
Average power means that the energy transfer rate is to be averaged over many periods of the lowest frequency involved. For a CW signal, the lowest frequency and highest frequency are the same, so average power and power are the same. For an amplitude modulated wave, the power must be averaged over many periods of the modulation component of the signal as well.

Dynamic range
Dynamic range the ratio of a specified maximum level of a parameter, such as power, current, voltage or frequency, to the minimum detectable value of that parameter.

Modulation
Modulation is the process by which the characteristic of one wave (the carrier) is modified by another.

Repeatability
Repeatability is the variation in a number of repeated measured quantities when measurement conditions are changed and restored. The value corresponds to half the spread between the minimum and maximum value measured.
